While Walking Around Athens - (Fabulous Walk VIII)

Here is a very good view of the Evzones' uniforms.
These men are wearing every day winter uniforms.
Blue in color, they are very similar to the service uniform worn until 1910.
The summer uniform is Khaki in color.
The uniforms always consist of the cap, the tunic, kilt, shirt, waistcoat, fringes in blue and white - the color of the Greek flag, garters (made of black silk), woolen stockings, inside garters (which hold the stockings in position), red leather clogs (seven and a half pounds each), and belt.
When it is very cold the men also wear a dark blue cape.

Just to lift their legs as high as their shoulders as they change guard with seven and a half pound clogs on their feet gives us some idea as to the strength required by these young men as they perform their amazing service for their president, the unknown soldiers' grave and in raising and lowering the flag upon the Acropolis of Athens each and every day of the year...
